RDC 2024 kicks off with some good news roblox creator The company wants to expand opportunities to make money. New opportunities include control over in-game prices, more revenue for creators, and the ability to sell merch.

The company announced its new vision during this year’s Roblox Developer Conference, with a goal of reaching 10% of the global gaming market. To put this into some perspective, the company wants to connect with as many gamers as possible and reach one billion daily users across multiple Roblox games and experiences. Considering how big the gaming platform is, I’d say they’re well on their way to that.

Roblox CEO David Baszucki presented his keynote address about the company’s future, and told the eager audience that he believes “10% of all global gaming revenue will flow through the Roblox ecosystem — and be distributed within our Roblox community.” He further added that about 80% of Roblox’s daily users come to play games, while 20% come to do other things such as walking around, shopping, or enjoy entertainment.

So, what’s the news for creators? Well, to achieve the goal, Roblox is trying to implement changes in key areas, including helping creators build their businesses within the Roblox world. First up are new economic systems that allow creators to earn a lot more revenue from their experiences, including adding paid-access games to the platform. Creators can expect a 50-70% revenue share depending on the price of each experience and this update coming in 2024.

Prices are also being slightly altered depending on the experience. Roblox will be implementing a ‘price optimization’ recommendation tool to help you set the best prices for your experiences, to attract more players. This is set to roll out over the next few months.

Another big update is that creators can sell merchandise directly in their experiences. Imagine the options – you could buy an Adopt Me Pets plush or a Blox Fruit figure right in the game.

Eligible creators can sell merch as early as 2025, following testing with retailers like Walmart, Elf Beauty and Warner Bros. — the minds behind the recent Beetlejuice movie collab. Roblox also intends to integrate e-commerce platforms for game creators to use, with the first being Shopify. If you list your products on Shopify, players can also purchase directly from inside Roblox.
