Of all the RDC 2024 announcements this year, perhaps the least surprising is the upcoming Roblox Scale and Display Tool To enhance the performance of their platform, one might even want to see 100-player games on it. The possibilities are endless in this regard. Creators can create open worlds and try to mimic PUBG Mobile, Fortnite, and others.
It’s not that Roblox lacks battle royale games, but they aren’t the most massive. The new tools seek to change that, pushing the platform further than ever before, and giving Roblox creators more opportunities to make their experiences must-play Roblox games for the masses.
The first new tool is the 3D Foundational Model, which uses AI technology. Roblox intends to make this model more appealing for 3D content creators, helping those who are already developing experiences and perhaps making it a little easier for future creators. Ultimately, the 3D Foundational Model is meant to help you create different scenes, whether it’s for an anime game or a mix of other genres.
In the name of being transparent, Roblox does not intend to integrate this tool into its existing tools, making it open source. Still, it aims to aid developers in creating their own vision, enabling them to create plug-ins to customize the model to their needs, even fine-tuning it to fit the aesthetic of their experience. Keep your eyes open as Roblox intends to bring you even more tools through the power of AI, continuing its achievements with Code Assist and Texture Generator.
“With the combination of AI and our endlessly creative creator community, the future will go far beyond anything we have imagined today, with an open-source solution that is not only groundbreaking for us, but groundbreaking for the industry,” explains Anupam Singh, Roblox’s VP of Engineers.
Changes beyond the 3D foundational model include performance reconciliation technology, aerodynamics, and automatic occlusion culling. The first of these, performance reconciliation, is a technology that Roblox intends to use to combat stability, presentation, and perceptual quality. In Layman’s words, it can help ensure a seamless experience for players, especially in big fun Roblox games that push the boundaries. Furthermore, this technology also aids in latency, FPS, lighting, physics, sound, and more beyond just visuals. The picture above gives you a before and after look at the use of performance reconciliation.
As far as aerodynamics go, which was first seen at RDC 2023, this technology reduces the scripting creators need to do to create more realistic air simulations. There’s nothing like falling to the ground after jumping out of a plane that detracts from the immersion of an experience, so for those who like to use aircraft in the games they create, being able to provide realism is a must.
For context on why this is so important, RickJ139, the creator of Plane Crazy, a game with over 355 million visits, explains that after using a custom aerodynamics system that was filled with problems, he “started experimenting with bringing Roblox’s physics-aligned aerodynamics system into the gameplay. Now, my players can customize their own planes and decide which parts they want to have affected by aerodynamics. With the new aerodynamics system, the possibilities are endless for the types of planes people can fly and the way those planes fly! I’m so excited to see what crazy combinations people create.”
Finally, the third piece of technology is automatic occlusion culling, which goes hand in hand with the harmonizing technology. Simply put, if you can’t see an object because there’s something in front of it, Roblox won’t load it. With all of these tools and technology, maybe Roblox will really provide a seamless experience similar to games like Fortnite. It’ll definitely provide a great thing to talk about in the new Roblox party and community features, and thanks to the new Roblox music capabilities, you can listen to some great tunes while you’re at it.
There were many more announcements made at RDC 2024, including a look at some new revenue avenues for Roblox creators. If you’re not a creator but want to get in on something, check out our Anime Royale Codes, Dress to Impress Codes, and Special Anime Defense Codes guides.
